Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Autism: A Growing Interest
Embracing New Horizons
There is increasing interest in the potential benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
While research is still ongoing, some studies have suggested that HBOT may offer certain advantages, such as this one, which concluded,
“Children with autism who received hyperbaric treatment at 1.3 atm and 24% oxygen for 40 hourly sessions had significant improvements in overall functioning, receptive language, social interaction, eye contact, and sensory/cognitive awareness compared to children who received slightly pressurized room air.”
Potential Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Autism:
- Improved Communication Skills: Some studies and anecdotal evidence suggest that HBOT can enhance communication abilities in individuals with autism
- Reduced Repetitive Behaviors: HBOT has been associated with a decrease in repetitive behaviors, which are common in individuals with ASD
- Enhanced Social Awareness: There are reports of improved social interactions and increased social awareness following HBOT treatment
- Reduced Neuroinflammation: HBOT may help manage neuroinflammation, which is believed to be one of the underlying causes of ASD
- Improved Mitochondrial Function: Enhanced mitochondrial function can lead to better overall energy production and cellular health
- Better Sleep Patterns: Improved sleep quality has been noted in some individuals undergoing HBOT
- Enhanced Sensory Processing: Some parents and clinicians have observed improvements in sensory processing and motor skills
- Detoxification of Heavy Metals: HBOT may aid in the detoxification of heavy metals, which can be beneficial for individuals with autism
It’s important to note that:
- Research is still ongoing: While there are promising findings, more studies are needed to establish the effectiveness of HBOT for Autism.
- Individual responses may vary: The benefits of HBOT may vary from person to person.
- HBOT should be used under medical supervision: It’s crucial to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment, including HBOT.
If you’re considering Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for someone with Autism, it’s essential to discuss the potential benefits and risks with a qualified healthcare provider. They can help determine if HBOT is appropriate and provide guidance on the treatment process.

What you do...
Nothing but breathe!
One of the best parts about Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Therapy is how easy it is for YOU. If you can lie down and relax, you’re qualified!
Why it works...
The only Therapy that works is the Therapy you complete!
By delivering an in-home experience we both reduce Patient Cost and the resistance associated with traveling to an outside clinic 5 days a week.
How many sessions you need...
The benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Therapy are cumulative. Just like working out 1 day a month won’t deliver the same results as working out 5 days a week. We work with your Physician but suggest at least 5 days a week through your monthly rental. Our founder still spends 5+ hours a week in his chamber after 3 years!
